Beth's Seattle 3 Day for Mema
If I said that I planned to walk 60 miles in 3 days, would you support me?
This year I turned 30, and my sister Abbe said to me "Beth, this year you should do something big!" Well, that is exactly what I am going to do. The weekend of August 9th, I will be participating in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. It's called The Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day. I'll be walking 60 miles in 3 days, from Enumclaw to Seattle with about 3,000 other courageous people. But, I'll need your help. I've agreed to raise $1,900.00 between now and July 12th, 2002 so that I can participate. This seems impossible to me now, but I am determined to do this so that I can be a part of something that is so important for so many reasons. We will sleep in tents, and shower in big semi trucks for 3 days. Sometimes I think I am crazy for trying to do this, and then I remember why I wanted to in the first place; all of the wonderful women and girls in my life, and in yours. The net proceeds from this event will support the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade's mission to fund access to care for, and research to find a cure, with the focus on medically underserved women. In America this year, a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed every 3 minutes. Every 13 minutes, the disease will claim another life...80% of those women will have no genetic disposition to the disease. Those are scary statistics, and we need to take action to lower them. This is a start. I am doing this for my grandmother, and yours. For every mother, sister, cousin and friend. I am doing it for the women who aren't lucky enough to have family..or friends. I am also doing this for my children. I hope you will share in this incredible journey with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts. Namaste, Beth, Seattle walker #4613 2002 2003, still to be determined :) I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. I will not refuse to do the thing that I can do." Helen Keller |
